Canada : Old Port employees protest overnight
Old Port workers camped out near their workplace on de la Commune St. last night. It’s their latest move in the ongoing dispute between their union and their employer.
The federal workers have been on strike since May 26 and have been without a collective agreement since March 31.
Wages and sick leave have been the two main sticking points in the ongoing negotiations. Workers want to boost entry-level wages from the current $10.67 an hour to $15 an hour. Last week the union voted against management’s latest offer which made no mention of paid sick days.
A number of Old Port attractions remain closed due to the strike, including the Montreal Science Centre.
