Pakistan : Pims nurses promoted after strike threat

ISLAMABAD, July 21: Staff of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) on July 20 did not observe strike after the Ministry of Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) accepted one

of their demands seeking promotions for nursing staff.

The Pims employees were protesting against the merger of hospital in the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Medical University as a result of which they had lost the status federal government employee.

They were of the view that the Ministry of CADD was not considering them federal government employees, which has not only hampered their promotions but excluded them from the list of candidates waiting for government accommodation.

The Vice Chancellor Pims Dr Javed Akram said that on Wednesday CADD ministry issued the notification promoting 232 nurses. In past nurses were never promoted in such a huge number.

“On Tuesday I held a meeting with the employees and told them that they should continue working and I will ensure that they enjoy the status of federal government employee,” he said.

“The notification is an indication that the government is still considering them as federal government employees. I hope they will keep providing services to the patients,” he said.
