Pakistan : PIMS employees to go on two-hour strike daily
Islamabad, July 19: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of employees of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) on July 18 announced to go on token strike to press for demand
of separation of PIMS from the Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Shaheed Medical University.
During a protest demonstration, the JAC office bearers representing different cadres of employees hailing from administrative wing, para medical, nursing and other wings, decided to observe two-hour daily strike from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. against non acceptance of their demand.
Addressing protestors, the JAC President Manzar Abbas Naqvi, central general secretary All Pakistan Para Medical Staff Federation Arshad Khan, Press Secretary Muhammad Anas and others said they want amendment in the Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Shaheed Medical University Act.
“The amendment bill to separate PIMS from the medical university is pending with the concerned National Assembly standing committee,” they said.The JAC leaders, said acceptance of their demand was required in order to maintain status of employees as civil servant besides resolving many other issues.However, they said the token strike would not be observed in emergency and critical departments.
