Pakistan : IT staff threatens strike for promotion
PESHAWAR, July 4: Computer operators of various departments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on July 2 set July 11 deadline for acceptance of their demand concerning promotion and upgradation.
Speaking at a
press conference at Peshawar Press Club on July 2, Information Technology Staff Association provincial president Habibullah said that if demands of the operators were not accepted till July 11 they would start agitation.
In the first phase, he said the employees would boycott their duties and in the second phase they would observe a three-day hunger strike in a protest camp from July 18 to 20 in front the Peshawar Press Club.
Following the hunger strike camp, he said, the employees would start protest demonstrations, rallies and the first protest would be held outside Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
He said that Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, finance minister Muzaffar Said and chief secretary had approved a summary for computer operators’ upgradation and the relevant summary was pending with the treasury department for issuance of a notification.
The treasury department and some elements in the establishment department, he said, had created unnecessary hurdles for the last one month.
“We have brought into the notice of chief minister, chief secretary and finance minister that the notification has been delayed without any reason after approval of the summary,” said Mr Habibullah.
Flanked by Mohammad Aslam Khan, provincial president of All Government Employees Coordination Council and a number of computer operators, he demanded of the government to immediately release the approved summary otherwise they would be compelled to announce complete strike with the support of different workers organisations across the province.
He maintained that using delaying tactics in release of the approved summary was beyond understanding, saying that some hidden hands were busy in such activities.
