India : Bankmen strike work, hold demo
They oppose reforms proposed by the Central government
Bank officers and employees, who went on a strike on Friday following call given by All India Bank Employees’ Association against the
“retrograde banking reforms” proposed by the Central government, held a centralised demonstration at the Andhra Bank Zonal Office on Friday.
Convenor of United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) C.A.S. Prabhakar and deputy general secretary of AP and Telangana Bank Employees’ Federation P.S. Malleswara Rao in their address demanded stringent action against wilful defaulters for recovery of Rs.8 lakh crore.
They also demanded infusion of adequate capital into public sector banks and opposed merger of public sector banks in the name of consolidation and bringing down bank branches.
They opposed privatisation of public sector banks and demanded nationalisation of private banks.
UFBU leaders I. Kesava Rao, N Sambasiva Rao, G. Vasudeva Rao, B. Ramana Murthy, J. Sankar Raju, A. Yugandhra, R.V. Ravi Kumar, A. Sushma and P. Saroja and a large number of employees participated.
