India : Bank workers union threaten to go on strike

Panaji: The Goa State Co-operative Bank Employees Union on Sunday resolved at its annual general body meeting to hold a strike if the bank's management fails to release the pending annual

increment and dearness allowance. The union has kept its decision, to undertake the strike, on hold till August 11, when the hearing will be held by the labour court on the issue.

According to the union's vice-president Prashant Maxelkar, the bank has failed to pay the annual increment since April 2015 and has also withheld the dearness allowance for the employees since February 2016. "After the hearing on August 11 and if there is no solution, we will go on strike. First, we will have a dharna. Then let's see if they call us for discussion," Maxelkar said.

Maxelkar also added that the management of Goa State Cooperative Bank had failed to discuss the charter or demands of the union which expired in 2013. "The management is still not calling us for a discussion," he said.

The union also condemned the delay by the bank management to complete the separation of the bank from its Daman and Diu operations. TNN
