India : Special meet to approve PF amount for staff

KOLHAPUR: The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has called for a special general body meeting on August 5 to allot cash towards the KMT employees' provident funds.

Over the last one year,

the Kolhapur Municipal Transport (KMT) administration has not paid its share towards the PF of its 1,000 odd employees. The KMT had faced the action of freezing of the bank accounts from the central PF office for not paying Rs 4.14 crore since June 2015. Last month, employees had threatened to go on an indefinite strike if their salary dues are not paid and the PF share is not contributed. After discussions with higher authorities, the civic body decided to call a special GB and get the funds approved.

Sanjay Inamdar, the KMT's public relations officer, said, "The budgetary provision of Rs 3 crore has been made, but the PF amount is more than the allocated amount. The GB will discuss all possible ways to generate the amount and pay the PF of the employees. The decision over regular salary payments of the employees will also be taken in the GB."

The KMT workers are demanding regular payment of the salaries, KMCs share towards their PF account and implementation of the sixth pay commission. The CPF had revoked the decision of freezing of the bank accounts only after the KMC gave the assurance in written.

The GB will also discuss the issue of salary payments as per the recommendations of the sixth pay commission. Currently, the transport administration spends over Rs 1.65 crore as salary. However, if the sixth pay commission is approved then the KMT will have to face an additional financial burden of Rs 32 lakh each month

"We have partially cleared the salaries and have assured employees of regular payments from October this year. Salaries for August and the next month will be paid in September," said Inamdar.
