India : Dispute between IT firm, unions resolved
Security arrangements at Technopark strengthened
: Security has been stepped up on the Technopark campus here following a protracted dispute between headload workers and employees of an IT company, which
was amicably settled on Tuesday evening at talks convened by the District Collector and Labour Officer.
The issue arose after headload workers belonging to different trade unions allegedly demanded inflated rates for unloading office chairs for an IT firm that had recently leased office space in phase 3 of the Technopark campus. The police intervened after employees of the company and the headload workers accused one another of assault, but failed to reach a compromise.
Later, the Technopark management took the initiative and brought both sides to the negotiating table where the issue was sorted out in the presence of the Collector and the District Labour Officer. Hrishikesh Nair, CEO, Technopark said the trade unions had agreed to unload the furniture at the prescribed rates.
Illegal entry of workers
Following the incident, Technopark has stepped up security on the campus. “It was found that several headload workers had illegally entered the campus, which is a Special Economic Zone,” said Mr. Nair. “We have decided to restrict entry to workers with identity cards.
