Pakistan : Population Department employees observe token hunger strike
SUKKUR, Aug 9: The Population Welfare Department of Sindh has directed all the District Population Welfare Officers of the province to transfer the services of 1,280 “social mobilizers” to the People’s
Primary Healthcare Initiative (PPHI).
Meanwhile, the employees of the Population Department have rejected the government decision, and a large number of employees of Larkana on a protest call given by the APCA observed token hunger strike in front of the Larkana Press Club against the government decision and demanded cancellation of the notification calling for transfer of the services of “social mobilizers” to the PPHI.
The provincial President of APCA, Peeral Dayo, who led the protest, told the media that after the 18th Amendment, the federal government had transferred departments to the provinces, but several departments were deprived of funds and basic facilities.
He said that instead of regularizing the services of the “social mobilizers” who had been working on contract basis, they were handed over to the PPHI without the consent of the employees concerned.
