India : Nurses stage hunger strike
The Tamil Nadu Village Health Nurses Association and the Federation of Nurses Association staged a hunger strike in front of the collectorate demanding implementation of their 7-point charter of demands
including filling up of over 2,500 vacant posts through seniority in employment registration, fixing of pay scale for women assistants, issue of necessary stationeries including various registers and supply of adequate medicines to the Sub Health Centres etc.
State Secretary of the Federation of Nurses Associations Vasantha Kumari inaugurated the hunger strike and explained the demands. State Treasurer Janet Bai presided.
District president of the Federation Sornam welcomed the gathering.
