Deadly airstrike hits Doctors Without Borders hospital in Yemen

At least seven people were killed and 20 wounded when a Saudi-led and US-backed coalition airstrike blasted a hospital in Yemen’s northern Hajja province on Monday, authorities said.

A witness told

Reuters that rescuers could not attend to and evacuate the wounded staffers and patients because jets continued to fly over the Doctors Without Borders hospital and the medics feared there would be more bombings.

The group confirmed on its Twitter account that an air strike took place near the Houthi rebel stronghold of Saad.

A spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the attack.

Another air attack a school in neighboring Saada province on Saturday, killing 10 children, but the coalition said the bombing had targeted a training facility run by Yemen’s dominant Houthi movement.

Dozens of air strikes have hit civilians in Yemen since a coalition of Arab states led by Saudi Arabia began military operations in March 2015 to restore President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi to power and roll back gains by the Shiite, Iran-allied Houthis.
