Pakistan : Kiln workers take to the street
TOBA TEK SINGH, Aug 15: Scores of brick kiln workers with their women and children and Labour Qaumi Movement activists held a sit-in on Aug 12 at Shahbaz Chowk for the
acceptance of their demands.
Bhatta Mazdoor Union district general secretary Muhammad Shabbir and labour leaders Baba Nazir Maseeh, Shagufta Bibi, Sajida Perveen and Muhammad Ashfaq spoke.
They said the district administration had failed to implement Punjab government’s notification under which kiln owners were to pay Rs1,036 per 1,000 bricks to the workers, while on grounds a labourer was getting Rs600 to 700. Khidmat cards were issued to kiln workers. They announced that their protest would continue till the acceptance of their demands.
