India : Hassan CITU appeals to public to support strike

The Hassan district unit of the Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has appealed to the public to support the countrywide strike on September 2 opposing the Centre’s policies on

workers.

As many as 11 trade unions have given the call for the nationwide strike.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, CITU district president Dharmesh said the strike call had been given to oppose the recent amendments to labour laws, increase in the price of essential commodities and increasing the minimum wage at Rs. 18,000 per month among others.

“The CITU conference held in Channarayapatna recently, has resolved to spread awareness about the strike and make it successful in the district,” Mr. Dharmesh said.

New committee

The CITU convention selected new office-bearers. V. Sukumar has been chosen as honorary president and Dharmesh as president. The following are the new office bearers – vice-presidents G.P. Satyanarayana, Y.R. Manjamma, Indiramma, K.T. Honne Gowda, Prakash, Kariyappa and Boja Poojari; general secretary D.L. Raghavendra, secretaries K.S. Manjunath, A. Harish, Aravind, Sowmya, V. Latha, Kumaraswamy and Ashok. The district committee also includes 50 members.
