Pakistan : Ayub Teaching Hospital medics go on strike
ABBOTTABAD, Sep 2: Doctors on Sep 1 went on strike at the Ayub Teaching Hospital here to the misery of patients.
With the cause list of operations for the day suspended,
only visitors to emergency ward were examined by medics.
The protesters said the strike would continue until the hospital’s senior management and board of governors met their demands, including provision of health professional allowance, security cover and accommodation, and due stipend payments.
They took out a rally on the premises before gathering at a place, where their leaders, including Dr Aminullah Afridi, Dr Zaheer Abbas, Dr Majid and Dr Hafeez addressed them.
The speakers lashed out at the hospital’s administration for not fulfilling their demands and said the protest would continue until the demands were met.
They warned the protest would spread to other hospitals of the province if the government didn’t give doctors proper security.
The speakers criticised the administration and BoG for ignoring patient care in the hospital and alleged both of them were busy making money.
They complained 80-100 doctors of the hospital lived outside the premises; hostels hadn’t been set up on the premises despite availability of adequate land, and the recent appointments to the hospital were made in violation of merit.
The speakers also regretted the purpose-built gynaecology and paediatrics wards hadn’t been functional for three years though equipment had been purchased for them three years ago.
They said the government should hold hospital BoG accountable for their acts and that their performance should be properly monitored.
The speakers also demanded the publicising of the minutes of the hospital BoG’s meetings for the information of stakeholders.
