Canada : Union representing striking support staff labels BCNU as 'anti-union' on Labour Day
As we mark Labour Day, it may seem ironic that one of B.C.’s most vocal unions is still embroiled in a labour dispute with its own workers.
59 administrative staff with the
“MoveUp” union have been on strike since late July.
Spokesperson Jen Holmwood claims the BCNU wants to scale back sick, medical appointment and family obligation leave.
She claims nurses are on their side.
“They really really want to encourage that BCNU leadership asks them, tells us that we want to go back to the table, negotiate a fair contract with no concessions. It highlights the fact that labour day is here and the BCNU leadership is acting in a very anti-union way.”
The BCNU has said workers are taking too much time off for appointments.
