India : Over 30,000 document writers to strike
Document writers will observe a hunger strike on Thiruvonam day on Wednesday in protest against the government decision to introduce reforms in respect of preparation of registration documents.
The hunger
strike would be staged in front of the district Registration office, said John Perumpally, chairman of the district-level Samara Samithi, at a press conference here on Monday.
30,000 to join strike
The document writers were rendered jobless because of the reform that permitted stakeholders of the property under registration to prepare the documents, he said. About 1,000 document writers in the district would join the strike. Over 30,000 document writers across the State would observe hunger strike on the day, according to him.
Pointing out that ordinary people won’t be able to prepare documents, he said the move would help fraudsters to thrive. Land mafia could misuse the provision with the help of officials, he said. The document writers had been demanding that the government order introduced earlier this year be scrapped.
