UK : Role Of The Guard & Extension Of Doo ?" Arriva Rail North
Dear Colleague,
ROLE OF THE GUARD & EXTENSION OF DOO – ARRIVA RAIL NORTH
I write further to my letter dated 15th February 2017, in which I advised
You will have no doubt received management propaganda on this dispute, riddled with inaccuracies and misinformation. Management have designed this document with the intention to divide and rule and undermine our balloting process. I would like to reiterate my previous correspondence whereby I informed you that your union entered into talks with Arriva Rail North in good faith to discuss the safety critical role of the guard and a potential new mode of safe train despatch. However, despite our best efforts, the company totally failed to give us the assurances we require over the guarantee of a safety critical second member on all passenger services. In a letter to the union the company simple stated ‘we are not in a position to offer either of these guarantees at this present time’ which tells you all you need to know about the company’s attitude and position. I ask that you ignore this management drivel as it only further undermines the role of the guard and makes a mockery of this situation, whilst doing nothing to resolve our dispute. Therefore, with this in mind and due to the company’s total lack of commitment to offer any guarantees or assurances the National Executive Committee has decided to ballot you and your colleagues.
Ballot papers have now been sent out to your home address with a closing date of First Post, Tuesday 28th February 2017.
I urge you all to use your vote and ensure we get a massive turnout in this ballot to send Arriva Rail North a clear message that we will not tolerate their disregard for passenger safety, job security or the dilution of the vital safety critical role of the guard.
If you have not received a ballot paper by Wednesday 22nd February 2017 please contact the RMT Freephone Helpline urgently on 0800 376 3706 and a replacement will be sent to you by first class post.
MAKE SURE YOU VOTE!
